West Rolleston new underground power cable

We’re investing now to create a strong electricity network in Rolleston.

Rolleston has quickly become a go-to area for people to live, work and play.  This rapid growth has meant we’re strengthening our network in the area.

We've nearly completed work on the new West Rolleston Zone substation on Burnham School Road.

In 2024 and earlier this year we also completed work to install new underground power cables to connect the existing substation at the corner of Dunns Crossing Road to the new West Rolleston substation on Burnham School Road.

Between 15 September - 5 October 2025, we'll be working on Burnham School Road to install an 11kV underground power cable. Ahead of this cable work, on Monday 8 September our crew will be onsite completing investigation work. To do this work safely, a shoulder closure will be in place. Please follow all signs and instructions from our crew

Where we're working
We've been working to install the new underground power cables in three stages - see map below. We've completed stages one and two, and we'll shortly start working on the last stage of work on Burnham School Road.

  • Install an 11kV underground cable parallel to the ducting.

Stage three: 15 September - 5 October 2025

  • Install an 11kV underground cable in the berm of Burnham School Road to the intersection of Dunns Crossing Road.

Construction of the West Rolleston Zone Substation

We've started construction of the new West Rolleston zone substation on Burnham School Road to increase the capacity of our power network in Rolleston.

Construction of the West Rolleston Zone Substation is underway with the civil works completed. All work on the substation is expected to be completed by mid 2026.

Most of this work should be contained within the worksite. At times, traffic management may be in place. Please follow all signs and instruction from our crew.
