West Rolleston new underground power cable

We’re investing now to create a strong electricity network in Rolleston.

Rolleston has quickly become a go-to area for people to live, work and play.  This rapid growth has meant we’re starting the construction of new West Rolleston zone substation to make sure communities have access to a strong and secure power network.

We're currently working around the intersection of Dunns Crossing Road and Burnham School Road to install underground power cables to connect to the new substation. We've nearly completed work to install the first of these cables along the berm on Dunns Crossing Road.

During January 2025, the intersection of Dunns Crossing Road and Burnham School Road will be closed as we work to install a new underground power cable. Detour routes will be signposted. Please follow all signs and instructions from our crew.

Stage one: November December 2024

  • Installing an 11kV underground cable on Dunns Crossing Road from Burnham School Road to Brookside Road.

Stage two: January 2025

  • Installing cable ducting for a 66kV underground power cable from the current Rolleston Substation to the new West Rolleston Substation site on Burnham School Road (across from West Rolleston Primary School).

  • Installing an 11kV underground cable parallel to the ducting.

Stage three: FY2026

  • Installing an 11kV underground cable in the berm of Burnham School Road to the intersection of Dunns Crossing Road.

Construction of the substation is expected to be completed in April 2025.
