Yes, Brougham Street is open while we work. We are working at night between 6pm and 6am, and during this time one lane of traffic will be open in each direction on Brougham Street. During the day we are not working, and two lanes will be open in each direction. Some movements are restricted. Please check the latest work notice for details.

Will property/business access be affected while you're working?
Property/business access should not be affected. We are only working at night, and the outside lanes of Brougham Street will remain open during this time.

Can I access my property while you are working in the road outside?
During the day, access may be temporarily restricted while we trench past. We will place steel plates over the trench, so residents can access their property. The team on site will keep in touch with property owners during the works.
We try to keep noise to a minimum wherever possible. However, construction work can be loud and at times the crew needs to use machinery to remove the road surface, to dig and fill trenches, and to reinstate the road. We are working as quickly and safely as we can to get these works done.
If you have any questions, please let us know by emailing 66kvbromleytomilton@isaac.co.nz or calling Isaac Construction on 027 387 5526.
Vibration may result from the crew using a milling machine to remove the road surface, or from the equipment we use to compact the trench and reinstate the road. Vibration reduces with increased distance from the source. We are doing our best to minimise disruption as much as possible.

Where ground water is near the surface, we need to dewater the site before we start digging. High ground water levels can make excavation difficult. Dewatering is the removal of naturally occurring ground water to create a dry area suitable for safe access and excavation.
We dewater a site using spears inserted into the ground. A pump then creates a vacuum that draws the water to a pipe at the surface that is connected to the spears. The ground water is then discharged to the local stormwater network.
Dewatering is a temporary activity, and ground water levels return to normal after the spears are removed. Dewatering does not affect the drinking water supply.
Why is there traffic management in place and I can't see anyone working?
We install the cable in the road in 800m long sections between two joint bays. We need to have the whole length of the trench ready before we can install the cable.
This means that as our work area moves along the road where the cable is to be laid, traffic management stays in place while the trench is open. If you see an open trench with no active work, it is likely we are working on another part of the trench.
Once the cable is laid we can then fill in the trench and reinstate the road.
As Brougham Street is a major thoroughfare in Christchurch, the cable works are being undertaken at night between 6pm and 6am to minimise impacts on traffic flows.
